Arrival at Colombo International airport. Meet and transfer to Kandy. En-route visit Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage.
Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - App. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo - Kandy road is Pinnawela, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 65 now; including Baby Elephants brought from various parts, as well as the 23 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programme. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.
Later on proceed to Kandy for check in to hotel. Afternoon city tour of Kandy including visit to the Upper Lake Drive, Market Square, Arts & Crafts Center and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Kandy - the hill capital. Venue of the annual Perahera. The last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of Buddhism’s influence in Sri Lanka toDay. Temple’s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere.
To the Buddhist of Sri Lanka and the world, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the “Dalada Maligawa” - Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.
Royal Botanical Gardens - Peradeniya - 147 acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of trees and plants. Some rare and endemics as well as flora from the tropical World. Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourist’s.

Breakfast at hotel. Then proceed to Colombo & commence a city tour.
Colombo - A drive through the city will take you to the Fort and Pettah - the commercial area of the city and tree-lined Colombo - 07 Cinnamon Gardens. Colombo 3, 4, 5, 8 are the prime residential area of the City.
Visit Fort, and Pettah for Shopping. The Hindu Temple at Sea Street, lined with goldsmith's shops, the Dutch Church at Wolfendaal, dating back to 1749. The historic Davatagaha Mosque, Independence Hall, B.M.I.C.H, see the replica of Avukana Buddha and the Independence Square.
Visit the Mlesna exquisite tea boutique, cashew nut shop and all sorts of ready-made garments at Majestic City & Liberty Plaza. Visit the Lanka Ceramics Center, a place where you can buy "NORITAKE SET" or other ceramic items and visit the "ARENA" at Darley road and "ODEL" at Lipton circus. Overnight at hotel in Colombo. (B) |
