Breakfast in the hotel. Then we leave the hotel to explore East Salalah; we pass the Royal farm and Mamura Palace on the way to Taqa. Here you can see an interesting castle. East of Taqa lies the ruins of Samhurum (Khor Rori) where the legendary palace of Queen Sheba believed to have and was the port of huge frankincense trade. A drive along the coastal road takes you to the old city of Arabian horses & slaves trade, Mirbat. After a photo stop at Bin Ali Mosque, built in the 14th century, visit Mirbat castle and old merchant houses with its carved doors and windows. Returning to Salalah we continue through the home of Jebalis with their camel and cattle trade. At the foot of the Qara Mountains we reach the natural spring of Ain Razat which is a beautiful park surrounded by hills.
Afternoon start with the tour of West Salalah, our first visit to the Bibilical ‘Nabi Ayoub’ Prophet Job’s tomb, perched high up in the ‘Jebels’ (mountains). Enroute are spectaclar views of the plains, mountain landscape and emerald green pastureland. Proceed to Mughsail beach where ‘blow-holes’ (perforations in the limestone rock) through which sea water gushes during high tide. Experience the hairpin bend roads for approximately 15-20 kms, which will take to a wadi. The views are breathtaking due to heights involved. This is the road that takes you to Yemen border. At the nearby bird sanctuary, one may find seasonal birds. Enroute the stark shape of leafless Frankincence Trees dot the landscape. Once traded as a commodity more precious than gold, frankincence harvested in Dhofar is rated the best in the world. Return to the hotel. Dinner & Overnight at Salalah hotel. (B, D) |
